Universidad Nacional Pedro Henríquez Ureña (UNPHU), through the UNPHU National Brain Bank (BNC-UNPHU), participated in the XXXII Latin American Congress of the Latin American Psychiatric Association (APAL) 2022, “Challenges of Mental Health in Latin America in the Digital Era”. The scientific meeting was dedicated to Dr. Fior Solís, the first Dominican woman to chair the SALW.
Dr. Daysi Acosta participated on behalf of the National Brain Bank UNPHU (BNC-UNPHU) and coordinated the XVII Symposium: “On Dementia”, in which she offered details in the conference given, on the search for a pharmacological treatment for Alzheimer’s disease. Dr. José Luna Muñoz, scientific adviser at BNC-UNPHU, also participated with the theme “Cognitive impairment and COVID”.
During the Congress, the BNC- UNPHU, carried its Traveling Museum of Brains, presenting the theme ‘’Neurodegenerative Diseases”. This exhibition was attended by more than 1000 people. The activity was carried out with the support of the Department of Special Projects, led by Dr. Jose Guillen.
The scientific event shared experiences on the different issues and presented proposals for public policies to address the main challenges in mental health.
It was attended by 18 presidents of psychiatric associations and societies of SALW member countries, former presidents of the entity, national authorities, among other key actors related to mental health and health systems. A total of 124 conferences were held.
It was held from November 10 to 12 at the Barceló Bávaro Convention Center hotel, Punta Cana, Dominican Republic and had the academic endorsement of UNPHU.
